Machan Varghese, eminent Malayalam comedian who endeared himself to the public with roles like the line-man in Meesha Madhavan or the drunken cowherd in Thenkasippattanam, passed away at the age of 50 years. The renowned actor had been quite unwell recently and was admitted due to his ailments in a private hospital located in Kozhikode. He passed away in the afternoon today after having enamoured Malayalam audiences for over two decades.

Machan Varghese had even been linked to a ventilator in a vain attempt to revive him after his conditioned turned from bad to worse on Wednesday. For the last 4 days, doctors put their best efforts but Machan’s brief illness turned into life threatening severity and from that point on there was no returning back. The last film featuring him was ‘Best of Luck’.

His other notable successes include Punjabi House, Thenkasi Pattanam, Thillakkam, Friends, CID Moosa and the like. From his foray into the Malayalam industry 2 decades back from the field of mimicry, Machan Varghese has achieved a lot of appreciation for his work and through his exceptional skills; this actor from Elamakkara earned his rightful place in the hearts of people. His death at the Baby Memorial Hospital in Kozhikode is mourned by the entire Malayalam film fraternity as well as the audiences.

From his debut with Kabooliwala, Machan Varghese had come a long way completing almost over 100 films in a career spanning nearly 2 decades. His association with three other notable names including Siddique-Lal, Rafi Mecartin and Lal Jose are specifically worth a mention. His work would be fondly remembered over the years to come.
